Today, a delegation comprising Sanjeev Chadda, President of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal ( CBM), along with Balwinder Singh General Secretary, and representatives from the Grain Market Welfare Association (GMWA)—President Mohit Sood, General Secretary Rahul Goyal, Joint Secretary Sahil, and Vice Chairman Sunil Gupta—met Shri Hari Kallikat, IAS, Secretary of the Agriculture Department, Chandigarh, and Shri Pavitar Singh, PCS. The meeting focused on the pressing issues of sanitation and illegal encroachments in the Sector 26 Grain Market.
During the discussion, the delegation highlighted the challenges posed by unauthorized vendors and inadequate sanitation facilities, which have been adversely affecting both traders and customers. They emphasized the need for immediate and coordinated action to restore order and hygiene in the market area.
In response, Shri Hari Kallikat assured the delegation that he would convene a joint meeting with the Chief Secretary, involving all relevant departments—including the Municipal Corporation, Police Department, Estate Office, and Engineering Department—to formulate and implement effective measures addressing the issues of illegal vending and sanitation in the Grain Market.
Furthermore, the delegation requested the installation of physical barricades to distinctly separate the grain and vegetable markets. This measure aims to prevent overlap between the two markets, thereby addressing issues of encroachment and sanitation simultaneously.
The delegation expressed their appreciation for the prompt attention and commitment shown by the authorities and look forward to tangible actions resulting from the forthcoming joint meeting .
