Sony Sab’s mythological drama Dharm Yoddha Garud has been a spectacle of fascinating tales from the Hindu mythology with a beautiful hint of fantasy. The epic portrayal of the mythical event of Samudra Manthan has got the viewers hooked. Carrying the story forward, the mystery of how Lord Shiv came to be known as ‘Neelkantha’ will be revealed in this week’s episode. In his fierce aspects, Lord Shiva (Sachin Verma) is always depicted as the Destroyer of all things evil. He is described as the God with three eyes, he holds the moon on his head, a snake wrapped around his neck and the Ganga sprouting off his hair. But how did his throat turn out to be blue?
The historical event of samudra manthan resulted in the emission of a poison called Halahala. It had the potency of destroying the universe. Seeing this, Garud (Faisal Khan) and Narad pray to Lord Vishnu (Vishal Karwal) for help. Lord Vishnu tells them that there is only one divine power that can help and directs them to the mighty Lord Shiva. Garud and Narad then urged Lord Shiva and he, very selflessly, agreed to drink the Halahala knowing that it may kill him. Goddess Parvati dissuades Shiva from consuming the poison, but he tells her that no one else but he can save the entire creation from destruction. He then consumes the poison and begins to choke, to save Lord Shiva Parvati clasps her hand around his neck in an attempt to try to stop the poison entering his stomach. This causes a kanth in his neck and the poison leaves a blue coloured mark on his throat. Thus, he came to be called ‘Neelkantha’ the blue throated God.
Talking about this amazing narrative of the show Faisal Khan who essays the character of Garud said, “The Samudra Manthan is one of the most crucial events of Hindu Mythology. Yet not many of us know how after this event Lord Shiva came to be known as the Neelkantha. Bringing alive on screen the stories that we heard in our childhood, the upcoming episodes on Dharm Yoddha Garud are absolutely riveting.”
Adding further, Sachin Verma who essays the role of Lord Shiva said, “The story of Samudra Manthan and the way Lord Shiva comes to rescue the entire creation is nothing short of fascinating. Knowing well that the Halahala will destroy him, Lord Shiva chooses to consume the poison. It was extremely rewarding for me to play such an enticing and powerful character. There are so many details of the story that I have now learnt about Lord Shiva that I did not know before. I hope the audience enjoy these upcoming episodes that are full of visual treats.”
