Chandigarh is brimming with pride as Pawan Kapoor, a distinguished Sports Officer with CITCO, has been named captain of the Indian tennis team for the upcoming World Masters Tennis Championship. The prestigious event is scheduled to take place in Lisbon, Portugal, from August 3rd to August 16th, 2025. The team is set to depart for Lisbon on July 31st, 2025, carrying the hopes of the nation for a strong performance.

This marks the second consecutive time that Kapoor, currently ranked India’s No. 1 and an impressive 22nd in the ITF International Rankings for the 55+ age group, will lead the national squad at this esteemed global competition. His consistent performance and leadership qualities have once again earned him this significant role.

The World Masters Tennis Championship is set to be a grand affair, with 22 countries, including India, confirming their participation. The team championship events will run from August 3rd to August 8th in Lisbon. Following this, Pawan Kapoor will also compete in the individual singles, doubles, and mixed doubles categories, which will commence on August 9th and conclude on August 14th. A strong field of 128 players from across the globe has confirmed their entries for the individual singles competition, promising intense and exciting matches.

The Indian 55+ age category men’s team also comprises seasoned players Mr. Alok Bhatnager, Mr. Raj Dutt, and Mr. Luxmi Kant Tanwer. Representing the women’s team are the talented Sohini Kumari, Vibha Chowdhary, and Manju n Babita.
