Every year on June 14th, World Blood Donor Day is commemorated. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the value of blood donation as a life-saving gesture. Every two seconds, there is a need for blood, which is predictable.
Who is qualified for blood donation?
Anyone above the age of 18 and up to 65 years old with a normal weight of 45 kg or more is eligible to give blood. Their haemoglobin should be greater than 12.5 grams per hundred milliliters.
Individuals with certain disorders, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney failure, depression, and others, are not permitted to donate blood because their illness may spread.
Body weight should not be less than 45 kg, and overall health should not be weak or undernourished.
The National Blood Transfusion Council publishes a list of people who are unable to donate blood because of their medical conditions.
· Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not donate blood because their bodies, especially the lactating mother, require the most blood.
· A person should not be sick with any type of bacterial, fungal, or skin illness since skin infections are caused by impure blood moving through the body.
· If a person is scheduled for any other vaccination, such as cholera, typhoid, or received one only a few days before going to donate blood, they should abandon the notion because their body needs blood and insulin for recovery.
· Adults have become obsessed with tattoos and body piercing. Individuals who have had tattoo or piercing surgery within the last 6 months will not be able to donate blood because the colored injections used to produce tattoos are inserted into the under root bloodstream, contaminating the blood.
· People with scars on their skin or who receive injections are not permitted to donate blood because it tarnishes the blood.
· A person should not have had several sexual partners or been addicted to drugs in the past because there is a risk of HIV-AIDS or other infections spreading.
· Certain medications may pose a risk to the donor or the recipient of the blood, so if you’re taking them, you won’t be allowed to donate blood.
