Badlaav 0.1 – Plastic Se Azadi event organised at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan

Event organised by Switch for Change Foundation in association with Municipal Corporation Ludhiana

Culminates the month long campaign to sensitise the city residents against the use of single use plastic

To spread awareness among Ludhianavi’s about reusing plastic, the NGO Switch for Change Foundation organised Badlaav 0.1 – Plastic Se Azadi in association with Municipal Corporation Ludhiana at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan. The event was the culmination of a month long Plastic Se Azadi drive organised all over the city. All kinds of plastic waste like single use plastic bags, chips packets, biscuit wrappers, washed milk packets etc were collected during the drive to be reused. The campaign’s main focus was: Let’s celebrate our freedom by freeing our environment from plastic pollution.’

The Chief Guest of the event was Joint Commissioner MCL Ankur Mahendroo. Prominent citizens of Ludhiana along with MLA Gurpreet Gogi’s wife were part of the event. The event also saw representation by the Punjab Pollution Control Board. The event saw participation from various other NGOs. Students with special needs from Nirdosh School performed special acts to spread awareness among residents against the use of plastic.

Various presentations formed part of the event where participants were apprised of different techniques to reuse plastic.

Speaking at the event Founder Switch for Change Gaurav Singh said: “Our NGO has been collecting plastic in various forms from all over the city the whole month of August in order for it to be reused and to be made into other items. We are grateful for the support that the Municipal Corporation Ludhiana has given us in this drive.’’

Senior Corporation officials urged city residents to stop using banned single use plastic especially carry bags and urged them to carry carry cloth bags.

Major schools of the city also participated in the event. “Switch for Change Foundation has been organising various events in schools and colleges to urge students to protect the environment, empower people and educate children,’’ adds Amandeep Kaur Director Switch for Change.

The event was supported by Ritu Malhan who is part of Green Thumb which is into waste management and terrace gardening, Baljeet Kaur psychologist, Col Jasjeet Gill who is actively working on the cleaning of the Budha Nullah, Gauravdeep Singh from Initiators of Change, Gunveen Kaur of Warrior Moms, Jaskirat Singh Tech Entrepreneur and Social Activist and Advocate Gaurav Arora Joint Secretary AAP.

The Shakti Plastic Industries is the official recycling partner of Switch for Change. Other supporters were Ludhiana Times, Media Pulse PR, Sanu Ki, Creative Arts Institute and Nanhey Kadam Pre-School.
