Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana celebrated Constitution Day today

Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana celebrated Constitution Day/National Law Day at Law Bhawan today under the general theme of ‘Sikhiya and Samwidhaan’ (also celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav). Hon’ble Ms Justice Ritu Bahri, Judge Punjab and Haryana High Court, Hon’ble Mr Justice Raj Mohan Singh, Judge Punjab and Haryana High Court, Hon’ble Mr Justice Harsh Bunger, Judge Punjab and Haryana High Court, Sh VK Janjua Chief Secretary State of Punjab, Ms Rita Kohli Senior Advocate, Shri Balwinder Jammu Journalist, Mr Gurinder Pal Singh Former Chairman BCPH, Ms Pallavi Thakur young Sarpanch from Punjab graced the different working sessions and shared their views with the audience while interacting with all.

Hon’ble Ms Justice Ritu Bahri highlighted the importance of educating children and reaching out to underprivileged communities to spread awareness on many important legal issues faced by the society. She urged the governmental bodies to take up these tasks with more vigour.

Hon’ble Mr Justice Raj Mohan Singh stressed the importance of constitutional values and its ethos. Hon’ble Mr Justice Harsh Bunger held an informative interactive session with the entire audience on the facts of Indian Constitution.

Mr Suvir Sidhu Chairman, Mr Chander Mohan Munjal, Mr Lekh Raj Sharma, Mr Baljinder Singh Saini, Mr Karanjit Singh, Mr Hargobinder Gill, Mr Ashok Singla Vice Chairman Bar Council & Mr Gurtej Singh Grewal Honorary Secretary Bar Council and Mr Ankit Chabbra Co-Founder Sanjhi Sikhiya also shared the stage.

A total of four working sessions were organised in a full-day programme on ‘Right to Education: A legal perspective, Law and Local Governance for Education, Youth as active citizens, Interactive session and quiz on the importance of Indian Constitution and its amendments.’

The event was attended by lawyers, law students, academicians, civil social volunteers, NGO’s, primary/secondary school students and children from underprivileged backgrounds. It was organised in association with Sanjhi Sikhiya and its team which has been working in the field of education and village empowerment in the State of Punjab.

The dignitaries stressed upon the importance of the Indian Constitution and the journey which led to the framing of the Constitution on 26 November 1949. Bar Council also displayed one of the copies of original handwritten replica of the Indian Constitution with informative booklets for all to see, the team of volunteers showed different pages to the audience with an aim to raise awareness on the parts of the Constitution.
